“The start could’ve been avoided. It’s not like us to concede so early …it was pretty harsh.

“But we played well after that. We kept the ball and pressured them.

“There was a lot of class in their team and it showed in the end.

“For us the biggest benchmark is playing against the best and tonight was a lesson we wanted and wanted to embrace.

“And they were exceptional goals some of them [conceded] from world-class players.

Australia’s display

“We’ll analyse this but we held our own for some periods of the game.

“I’m always proud of the boys and the effort and it’s great to see everyone getting the minutes they needed and it’s definitely planning for the Confederations Cup.

“And Mitchy [Langerak] and Milos [Degenek] were outstanding tonight.

“Look, it’s unfortunate to concede four goals but the fans could see we were pressing them well and playing some good football in patches and we’ll still believe in what we can do.”

What Australia can do better at the Confeds

“We definitely can have a little more composure. And be a little more settled before we try go forward and try not play in too many tight areas.

“We’re going to the Confeds Cup in good spirits. And looking forward to our first game [against Germany].”
